Cite Chaillot or Trocadero is a palais on a hill, directly facing the Eiffel Tower which is separated by Seine’s river. The palais was named by Battle of Trocadero in August 31, 1823. At first, on 1867, Trocadero was built for international meetings in World’s Fair. The palais was made by Gabriel Davioud as a large concert hall with two wings and two towers. It’s style not only full of historical aspects but also has exotic sides, generally called “Moorish” but with some Byzantine elements. Below the building which is an ancient mining site, there is a large aquarium. It was built to contain fish from French rivers. Meanwhile, the space between the palais and the Seine is set with gardens and an array of fountains designed by Jean-Charles Alphand.

As time goes by, in 1937, the Palais du Trocadero was demolished and replaced by modern the Palais de Chaillot. The architect Louis-Hippolyte Boileau, Jacques Carlu, and Leon Azema, maintained the original shape Cite Chaillot, who has two wide arc-shaped wings. The difference is the buildings are independent and not centered in the middle. Palais de Chaillot or Cite Chaillot is one of historical places which has important impact to humans life in the world. In December 10 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by United Nations at this place. It was also the initial headquarters of NATO, while the Palais de l’OTAN (now Université Paris Dauphine) was being built.

Nowadays, this building consists of several museums. You can see the Musée National de la Marine (Naval Museum) and the Musée de l’Homme (ethnology) at the southern wing, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, including the Musée National des Monuments Français, at the eastern wing, and the Théâtre National de Chaillot is located at theater below the esplanade.
